The XS 750 US Custom was originally a bike with a big Vetter fairing and a broken engine.
As a replacement we have a good XS 850 engine, we will used the complete 850 wiring with it.
We also have used parts from the 750 Special, so we changed a few parts with original parts in better shape.
First we are going to build the complete bike without painting the frame, because some modifications are needed.
We cut off the rear frame in order to place a beautiful aluminum mudguard, which also will be mounted on the front end.
We started off changing and replacing things without taking pictures, so here's the list:
- new low handlebar: handlebar in shop
- new British look headlight: headlight in shop
- new fork gaitors in fat British style: not yet in shop
- new grips on the handlebar in fat British style: grips in the shop
- new clutch lever: clutch lever in shop
- new brake lever: brake lever in shop
Work that's done:
- polishing lower front forks and fitted new seals and oil
- reshaped the headlight brackets, they are from the XS 850 but are made shorter, so the headlight is placed more "in" the bike.
- cut off the rear frame
- made a steel bracket to mount one single meter, the speedometer.
The front end looks like this now:
At this moment no parts are painted yet, just fitted to see how it looks and build a complete bike first.
The "original" vintage 70's paintwork on the fueltank and sidepanels will stay ofcourse, this gives the bike that unique look!

The goal
The goal is to design and create a streetbike in the looks of a 1971 motorcycle based on a Yamaha XS 750 US Custom.
The bike will be build with parts from the XS 750 US custom, the XS 850 special and lot's of new parts we sell in our webshop.
So the actual goal is to create a "pilot-bike" where all retro-vintage, but all new parts are displayed on to be a beautifull example for home-builders of cafe-racers and vintage streetbike lovers!
In this blog, all the parts used on this bike are mansioned and the build can be followed in steps.
Here below a photoshopped design of what the bike is going to look like.
